Sex is Better for Some Women After Sterilization

WASHINGTON, DC — Some women report significant improvement in their sex life following tubal sterilization, according to a study in the September issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The study found that the majority of women indicated no change in either sexual interest (80%) or pleasure (81.7%) after sterilization. However, women who did experience a change were 10-15 times more likely to report increased — rather than decreased — sexual interest or pleasure. Researchers suggest that the increase in sexual interest or pleasure following tubal sterilization is probably due to removal of fear of unwanted pregnancy or discontinuation of a method of birth control that had adverse effects.
