The following information has been arranged to assist you in planning your surgery.
1. A preop visit will be scheduled 1-2 days prior to surgery to review, answer questions and prepare necessary paperwork. Please bring all medications and medical history.
2. Your surgery will take place on Wednesday.
3. Postoperatively pain and nausea medication will be available upon request. You will start a liquid diet the morning after surgery and advance as tolerated.
4. Please try to deep breathe and move your legs as early as possible.
5. Typical discharge will be the following Friday – anytime.
6. On Friday the catheter will be removed. If you can void freely, you are ready for discharge.
7. Please keep your bladder empty – frequent voiding.
8. If your temperature is 100.6 or greater, please call.
10. Please refrain from lifting or strenuous exercise for at least 4 weeks, light activity as tolerated and frequent breaks lying horizontal.
11. Do not drive for at least 2 weeks until you can turn quickly and do not require sedative pain medications.
12. No douching or vaginal intercourse for 4 weeks.
13. Please notify me if you develop vaginal bleeding heavier than a menstrual period or persistent nausea, vomiting, or pain not relieved by your pain medication.
14. You may contact me by calling (727) 669-6242 (this will automatically call forward to the answering service if the office is closed).
15. You may return to work as soon as you are capable, usually 3-4 weeks for full time or two weeks part time.
16. Please try to avoid constipation. Stool softeners such as MIRALAX- DAILY, Colace, Peri-colace, Surfak, Metamucil or Doxidan two to three times a day will usually be preventative if taken in advance. Also, Milk of Magnesia, two tablespoons at bedtime, may be used. If you have nausea, you can take Benadryl or Dramamine and chew with a small amount of water.
17. A thick yellow discharge from the vagina is typical from the second to fifth weeks post op.
18. Please call to arrange a follow up visit 4 weeks post op.
19. I welcome hearing from you with any questions. Your common sense is your best guide.
